Volunteers give priceless support to our services. With your help we can reach and support more veterans.

Whatever your background, you’ll find that volunteering for The Queen Alexandra Hospital Home is rewarding and challenging, and knowing that you are helping to make a difference is a great feeling.

We are currently looking for volunteers for the following:

Assistance at Fundraising Events with the Fundraising Team

We hold events throughout the year and always need extra pairs of hands to help out on the day, for example to help with refreshments, stalls, fundraising initiatives etc. We would let you know when our events are and you could volunteer for whichever ones you would like.  Our events are held mainly on Saturdays, Sundays and in the evenings.

Reading and Chatting with Residents

We have some residents who would love to have more company and someone to come and read to them, play cards with them or generally just visit and have a chat.  This sort of volunteering is very flexible as you could visit at any day or time to suit you.

Volunteering on Reception

This involves welcoming visitors, answering the telephone, operating the security barrier and general reception duties.

We have large gardens around the Hospital Home and are always on the look out for people to come along and help with weeding, planting, pruning etc.  This is fairly flexible and you would liaise with our gardener to organise when to come and for how long.  We also welcome gardening groups from companies and organisations.

Chaplaincy Volunteering

This is to assist our Chaplain in our Chapel at the communion services we hold every Wednesday at 3.00pm.  It involves helping the Chaplain set up for the service and welcoming those who attend, and then accompany them back to their rooms at the end of the service.  This would take about an hour to an hour and a half, and you could come to as many as you would like, ie attend weekly or monthly.  There is also the opportunity to come along to our monthly ‘Songs of Praise’ service, usually on the 4th Sunday of every month at 3.30pm. The duties are similar as for the communion services in terms of helping set up and interacting with the residents who attend.

“I enjoy coming into an environment where so many people are friendly and happy. There is always a ready smile from everybody when you come in to help.”

If you would like to volunteer, email us to register your interest and receive information about future volunteer roles, or call Helen on 01903 213458.
