Climb Kilimanjaro: 13th-23rd October or March 2012 (exact dates to be confirmed)
Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and one of the largest free standing mountains in the world. Climbing Kilimanjaro is a challenge that almost every trekker and mountaineer in the world wants to conquer. Trekking from Marangu through dense forest and wild flowers to the Mount Kibo peak will take about 6 days but watching the sunrise at Gilman's Point (5685m above sea level) will be a moment to remember!
Well done to Laura and friend Pascale who conquered Kilimanjaro in October 2010 raising a whopping £12,000 for QAHH! Laura had a very personal reason for taking on the challenge after QAHH helped rehabilitate her Mother Susan following a Brain Tumour. I am pleased to say that after only 9 months at QAHH Susan is now back with her family – and couldn't be more proud of the girls' achievements. Read Pascale's fascinating account of the trip by clicking here.
QAHH driver Andy Hastings and his friend Kevin Allen conquered Kilimanjaro in January 2011. The dynamic duo have raised over £8,260.24 for QAHH and the donations keep rolling in.
Andy says "Thanks to all who supported Kev and I, it was a great achievement for both of us to make it to the top – 5766m (18,885 ft). Without all the support it would have been so much harder. We are both glad we have done this, it was a great adventure in a wonderful country. Thanks again everyone (next stop Everest?)"
If you would like to climb Kilimanjaro yourself or are interested in finding out about our other exciting challenge events please contact fundraising@qahh.org.uk for an information pack today.
London to Paris Cycle ride:
24–27 June 2011 or 9-12 September 2011
This long weekend challenge links two great European cities, London and Paris and covers around 300km in just three days. We cycle through undulating countryside towards the south coast, before crossing into France by ferry. From Dieppe, we continue through sleepy Normandy villages with some challenging hills to conquer along the way, until we reach the Eiffel Tower in Paris. You will enjoy some free time to explore this beautiful city before taking the Eurostar home.
