Process
At The Queen Alexandra Hospital Home we aim to provide our residents with a wide range of high quality personalised care plans, leisure and social activities, lifestyle and day-to-day living choices. We passionately believe in helping our residents maximise their ability and achieve their full potential.
The time it takes from enquiry to admission can be as little as a few days. Factors that will effect the process are the speed at which the doctor completes their part of the application form, the availability of beds in the home and the speed at which we are able to come to carry out the assessment. In all cases the admissions process is a swift as it can be.

Assessment
Before we are able to take on a new resident it is necessary to undertake a thorough assessment procedure. We use the Roper Logan Tierney nursing care model which is based upon 12 activities of daily living such as Communication, Eating and Drinking and Mobilisation. By investigating each area we are able to build up a picture of the type of nursing care an individual requires and the areas in which they are going to need more or less help.
We do not take residents into our charity home if we are not able to provide the correct level of care they need. Our specialist capability is with those suffering from an Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) and those with physical disabilities. We are not in a position to accept individuals of an Elderly Mentally Infirm (EMI) nature.
We emphasis the importance of taking a multidisciplinary approach to our care. It is important to keep the resident at the central focus point and keep them involved in decisions about what is best for them. In essence our care is about empowering residents, keeping them involved and encouraging them to take and keep control of their lives. Back to top
Accommodation
Currently we have the capacity for 60 beds of which 22 are in the new Alexandra Ward. All rooms in the Alexandra Ward are single and feature en-suite bathrooms and built in overhead hoist systems which makes moving residents with mobility problems much safer and easier. The new ward was completed in September 2005 and officially opened by our President HRH Princess Alexandra, the Hon. Lady Ogilvy, K.G., G.C.V.O on the 2 February 2006.
We are currently in the process of redeveloping the two older wards, The Norfolk Ward South (formerly Lavinia Ward) and Norfolk Ward North (formerly Elizabeth Ward) which will involve extensive refurbishment. The refurbishment will cost around £1.5m to complete and will see the creation of single room accommodation as well and the retention and development of our double rooms, which enable us to offer couples the chance to stay together whilst at the home. The refurbishment started in March 2008 and will be complete by the end of 2008. Back to top
Funding Costs
Our care fees start at £700 and are determined by the degree of nursing dependency a resident requires. We pride ourselves on treating residents in an holistic manner making sure we pay attention to not only their physical requirements but emotional and social ones too.
A typical fee structure will see contributions from the resident (based on a system of low, medium and high dependency), funded nursing care (through the NHS and Primary Care Trust or PCT) and top up fees paid by The Queen Alexandra Hospital Home. Each enquiry is treated independently to allow the maximum degree of flexibility. The top up contributions from The Queen Alexandra Hospital Home are generated through our fundraising and events activities.
